I am very hungover so please no shouting and if you point out any punctuation mistakes I will throw a bottle at your teeth. Now!
Registering and insuring a classic like my 1969 Chrysler in Ontario is kind of a bitch. I needed to get the thing appraised before I could even get a temporary plate on it. (That's actually another story.) But now my car is on temp plates and needs to pass a "saftey inspection" to be fully registered.
The guy I bought the thing off of had records going back to the 90's of this car being maintained at a shop called REDACTED. "They mostly do Italian stuff but I know a guy there and he knows the car" he told me.
So today I call the number and the most Italian man ever (Named Tony) picks up the phone.
Hi, did you used to do work on an old Chrysler?
Oh, yes of course I remember that car. Yes I have known that car many years.
Wow it's been off the road for a few years, how can you remember it?
A beautiful car like that, I can never forget.
So I explain my saftey situation and that it has to get done by the end of the week. (Stupid ON laws only give you 10 days to saftey a vehicle) He says he's full up to next week but told me "come down here with proof you own it." I said I'd love to but the car is apart right now and I can't drive it today. "Oh doesn't matter" he says.
It finally clicked what he was trying to say so I grabbed my registration, hopped in my Suburban and drove down to the shop.
This place is cool. It was literally a converted store surrounded by derelict brick buildings and accessible only by a one-lane alley. The faded sign said "Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat, Lada service here." Outside there were about 10 classic Alfas and Fiats. Only Italian stuff.
How this rinky dink, hole in the wall Italian shop came to be the sole mechanics for a massive Chrysler for over 20 years is still a mystery to me but now my Chrysler is officially saftey'ed and ready for the road.
He was also giving me a sales pitch on a Fiat 124 spider. It worked. I'm going to test drive it this week.

So FIAT being equal to Fix It Again Tony literally works in every way at this shop. Need to know more about these Italian cars in Canada too though.

I'll give you a call if I ever sell it. And Mr Tony sounded confident that he could fix the noise. I also painted the valve covers and replaced the fuel filter.

What do you want to know? He had a GTV6, 164, an 1987 Duetto, like 4 124 spiders and that really crappy alfa sedan they made in the malaise era. The one they made with nissan i think.

While you're hung over, I'll point out that as a state and not a thing it's two words.
*dodges bottle*
Form a working relationship with Tony. He likes your car, which is an amazing advantage, and he seems to be a cool guy. Anything you can't get done at this point, Tony should be The Man.

*reaches for bottle in the dark
Yeah I hope his pricing is fair for labor but his rates for inspections are pretty damn good haha
And as luck would have it, this shop is 5 minutes from my house. Cool place and I'll take pictures next time I go there.
